HPVJournal: The Detection of Multiple Human Papillomavirus Types in Coldylomata Acuminata Lesions from Otherwise Healthy Patients (Found in the Journal of Microbiology from the American Society for Microbiology) Volume 37, Number 10, Page #3316, October 1999, First of all, I learned that Genital Warts are actually called Condylomata acuminata. Genital Warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) they are cauliflowere like lesions of skin that most commonly appear on the genitals. This article demonstrates through cited data and research that most Condylomata acuminata lesions contain multiple HPV types, including types with normal skin. High risk HPV types were detected in more than half of these lesions in healthy individuals, and 100% from people with a low immune system. Basically all this observation showed that low-risk types of HPV were found more often in all lesions, while high-risk types were detected most often in people with low immune systems. Because of this some believe the possibility of contracting more than one genital skin infection with low and high-risk types. These can change into a dysplastic disease if the patient is under a condition such as AIDs which alters their immune functions. From reading this article I gathered that perhaps there is a possibilty of a healthy individual to somehow acquire cauliflower like lesions on their genitals with having HPV. HPV almost always causes lesions especially in those people who have lower or altered immune systems. But just because you have genital lesions doesn't mean that the human papillomavirus is present. |
